Story Pitch

The story that I would like to pursue for this first assignment is I want to find out what the “new” day in a life of a student athlete is and what has changed during covid and if anything has stayed the same. I think what makes this story interesting is that there has not been a major sports shutdown (from what I can remember) ever like this before. I also am curious to see what protocols and if there is anything different from sport to sport. Especially for hockey, where this could be the last year some of these guys have a chance to show that they can play in the NHL and now it could just be taken away.

I haven’t done any interview just yet, but I have a lot of contacts that I could talk to and finding people wouldn’t be a problem at all.

A place I could go would be the athletics office because even though there are no sports I know for a fact that there are people still in there so that would probably be where I start.

I don’t really have any other information other then I think it’s very interesting that conferences like the B1G, SEC, etc have all decided its safe enough to play football this season. But what is the difference between them and the NSIC other then the fact that the NSIC doesn’t make the kind of money those conferences make? Seems very interesting

This type of story would give UMD student athletes a voice that I actually haven't heard. They didn’t have a say in whether or not the season would be shut down and they arguably the ones who are most affected by this decsion.
